英語版の週刊少年ジャンプ公式サイトに1月27日付けで栄ちゃんの最新インタビューが掲載されています。これは昨年の12月に開催されたジャンプフェスタ2016の際に、同編集部が行ったインタビューで、同誌2016年1月18号に掲載されていたもののようです。翻訳は私が適当に。始めに断っておきますが、大した内容ではないです。

Eiichiro Oda JUMP Festa Interview

Team Jump went to Jump Festa 2016 and got a chance to interview a bunch of manga artists! We asked all of them the same set of eight questions for this series of brief interviews.

Shonen Jump: In a word or two, what does Shonen Jump mean to you?
Oda Sensei: It’s a way to pass the time. It shouldn’t be anything more than that, and it’s not less than that. It’s a momentary break of amusement experienced as you live your life each day.
編集部：一言二言で言うと、尾田先生にとって少年ジャンプとは何ですか？
尾田：時間つぶしですね。それ以上でもそれ以下でもないです。毎日の暮らしの中にある一時の楽しみですね。

SJ: What about manga?
Oda Sensei: My answer is the same for manga—a way to pass the time. And Shonen Jump is no exception. And I want to become the king of passing time!
編集部：漫画についてはどうでしょう？
尾田：漫画についても同じで、時間つぶしの一つです。少年ジャンプも例外ではありません。僕は暇つぶし王になりたい。

SJ: Is there something that you are really into or excited about recently?
Oda Sensei: Japanese sake. I recently finally realized the deliciousness of sake.
編集部：最近はまっていることはありますか？
尾田：日本酒。最近お酒の美味しさをようやく分かるようになりました。

SJ: Do you have a favorite?
Oda Sensei: Hitakami sake is really good.
編集部：お好きなものはありますか？
尾田：日高見（※ブログ注：宮城県の銘柄）が美味しいよ

SJ: Is there something you are excited about for 2016?
Oda Sensei: Let’s see. Excited about...? Well, maybe that’s not the best way to describe it, but a new movie is coming out next year, so that’s all I’ve been thinking about lately. So I’m hoping it can come out as soon as possible next year.
編集部：2016年で楽しみな事はありますか？
尾田：え〜と、楽しみな事？う〜ん、もしかしたら質問の答えにちゃんとなってないかもしれないけど、新しい映画（※ブログ注：ONE PIECE FILM GOLD）が来年公開になるから、最近はそれのことばかり考えています。来年にできるかぎり早く公開できればいいんだけど。

SJ: Which of your characters would you want to hang out with at a New Year’s party?
Oda Sensei: Luffy would make the party really fun, but in terms of drinking, I’d want to hang out with Zolo. I bet he’d appreciate sake too. I’d definitely need Luffy and Usopp to get the party going though.
編集部：自身の作中のキャラクターで新年会に一緒に行きたいのは誰ですか？
尾田：ルフィはパーティーを盛り上げてくれるけど、酒を飲むってなら、ゾロと一緒に行きたいかな。ゾロも酒の良さが分かってるだろうからね。パーティーをうまくするならルフィとウソップはきっと必要だけどね。

SJ: Have you ever had dreams about your manga characters?
Oda Sensei: Nope. I think about One Piece every second I’m awake, so it’d be a problem if I also dreamed about it. My brain couldn’t handle it. I need a break from One Piece at least when I’m sleeping.
編集部：ワンピースのキャラクターが出てくる夢を見たことがありますか？
尾田：ないですね。起きている時は毎秒でもワンピースのことを考えていて、その上、夢でも同じ事を考えていたら問題でしょうね。僕の脳が持ちません。寝てる時ぐらいはワンピースから離れることが必要です。

SJ: How does it feel when you come to events like Jump Festa and see so many fans?
Oda Sensei: It really becomes clear to me that so many people are reading my manga. I’m usually stuck in my room drawing all day, so I don’t really see people reading my work. Being here and seeing so many people talking about the series wakes me up to the fact that it’s actually popular. I really appreciate these events for that.
編集部：ジャンプフェスタのようなイベントに来て、たくさんのファンを見てどう思います？
尾田：本当にたくさんの人が僕の漫画を読んでくれているんだなと実感します。いつも自分の仕事部屋に一日中こもりっきりなので、僕の作品を人が読んでいるところを見る事は本当にないんです。ここに来てたくさんの人がワンピースについて話しているのを目にすると、本当に人気があるんだな〜という事実に気付かされます。

SJ: There are a lot of fans out there who read your manga in English. Do you have a message for them?
Oda Sensei: The story of One Piece will continue to heat up this year. From this point on, only amazing things will be happening, so I hope you can keep reading it.
編集部：それ以外に英語で読んでいるファンも大勢います。彼らにメッセージはありますか？
尾田：ワンピースのストーリーはヒートアップし続けますよ！今年は！ここからはスゴい事しか起こらないのでワンピースから目が離せないと思います。
